movement as mark

Wax and charcoal - elemental materials, are combined with the repetitive motion of the artists gestures which speak to the ways in which the earth is rubbed overtime by sand, wind, and human interaction. This monumental series of drawings feature stretch marks, dimples, and goosebumps on the surface of otherworldly landscapes. The drawings emerge from the paper without the use of tools. They are created by the direct mark-making of hands rubbing charcoal into wax impregnated paper. As we continue to live on this fragile planet, these drawings remind us of the toll our human impact has on our earth.  Earth Skin #34, 53x36.5, charcoal, encaustic on paperEarth Skin #32, 30x22, charcoal, encaustic on paperEarth Skin #31, 22x19.5, charcoal, encaustic on paperEarth Skin #33, 44x30, charcoal, encaustic on paperEarth Skin #29, 20x26, charcoal, encaustic on paperEarth Skin #28, 20x26, charcoal, encaustic on paperEarth Skin #30, 22x230, charcoal, encaustic on paper
